Deciding on a Home Newborn Session?

If you’re considering a home newborn session, here’s a little insight to help you decide which is right for you and your family. I absolutely love capturing newborns and the joy and excitement surrounding this new love. Although I have a newborn studio, I’m happy to offer lifestyle newborn sessions from the comfort of your own home in a way that captures your story with your brand new baby beautifully. My style with home newborn sessions is lifestyle focused capturing your little one more natural and less posed with you and your family in your home setting.

WHEN ARE NEWBORN SESSIONS SCHEDULED?

I believe babies can be beautifully captured at any time however, for traditional newborn sessions in the studio it’s recommended to schedule your session within the first two weeks of birth to capture those sleepy, curly poses. When we book your session, we will use your due date as a temporary date on my calendar as I only book a certain amount of newborns each month. For home sessions, there is a little more flexibility in choosing a date since the emphasis on posing is more natural and organic and lifestyle based. With this said it is best to book your newborn session during your second trimester of pregnancy to ensure availability around your due date.

HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST?

You can expect your session to last about 2 hours. Your little one will determine how the session flows keeping in mind we may need to stop for feeding and diaper changes which I'll incorporate into the session as well.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE SESSION?

I like to start the session off with the baby in a onesie or diaper only for skin shots. I will also bring a few neutral colored wraps that are perfect for swaddling newborns. If the baby is sleeping I generally start the session off with solo and intimate portraits in the nursery and crib, then each parent’s portrait individually and together followed by any sibling portraits. Home sessions can also be customized to fit your specific needs.

Is a HOME NEWBORN SESSION right for me?

In the beginning of my business, I only offered in-home sessions due to not having a dedicated space of my own. I’m happy to now provide a beautiful studio equipped with a variety of backdrops, wraps, headbands, hats, outfits, buckets, furs, floor props and more accessories perfect for capturing a variety of posed and wrapped newborn portraits as well as family portraits. The studio also has a lounge area for you to relax, nurse and change your little one as well as a refreshments area. It’s also thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between every session including all props, blankets, common areas and touch points throughout the space and anything used during a session providing a safe environment for your loved ones. Home sessions are still available for clients who prefer the convenience of staying home. For home sessions, I provide a lifestyle focused gallery including naturally posed images in a natural setting, more relaxed and candid. This means my main focus will be capturing the connection and love shared for your little one using your home as the backdrop and less props than in the studio. Generally I arrive with just my camera in tow in addition to a few wraps and headbands so I rely heavily on the natural light in your home.

WHAT IF THE NURSERY ISN’T READY OR MY HOME ISN’T STYLED?

Planning a nursery takes a lot of work so if you have one decorated, I’d love to photograph you in it with your little one. Honestly, my goal will be to capture your emotion with your brand new baby so it won't matter which room we're in. Beautiful light will be my top priority so I’ll need to at least have a window to work with that receives a great amount of light. There may also be other areas in the home we can photograph in such as cuddling on the couch or in bed. During your consultation, we will review areas in your home with the best light and the best areas to photograph decor wise. The rooms I typically photograph in would be the nursery, living rooms, dining rooms and also bedrooms…pretty much any where there’s a large amount of light.

CAN WE INCLUDE OUR PETS INTO THE SESSION?

Absolutely. Fur babies are family too! We will discuss your pet and set expectations when working with animals as safety will be our top priority.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

I suggest coordinating your colors by starting off with a neutral or soft color pallet such as creams, grays, blushes, blues, light denims to name a few. For home sessions, it’s always a good idea to keep it simple and pick clothing that you're comfortable in but also shows off your unique style. You can even go barefoot. We will discuss in greater detail during your consultation. I’m also available to help with selections.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE SESSION?

Following your session, you will receive a link to view a gallery to choose your favorite images, purchase any additional digitals as well as add on any products you'd like to order. The final editing will be completed then you will be given instructions on how to download. The entire process can take up to 2-3 weeks. Following delivery of your gallery, you’ll also receive an invitation to schedule a virtual ordering and design appointment for products you’re interested in purchasing.
